Samobor banking stems from the 1873, when in our country first monetary institutions appeared. Samoborska savings bank was established at that time and continuously operates until today. According to the report of the Chamber of Commerce in Zagreb for the year 1879, Croatia had 3 banks and 12 savings banks, and upon paid capital Samoborska savings bank was the second largest "Šparkasa" in Croatia, even in front of the oldest and most prestigious First Croatian Savings Bank in Zagreb. The founders or the first shareholders - owners of the bank were prominent man of Samobor (21 in total). Structured as a joint stock company, it changed its legal status (in some periods operation was run as a business unit of larger banks) acting as financial institution for the Samobor area, but also the wider region by participating in economic development. Samoborska savings bank was able to survive in the vortex of the global crisis in the period since 1929 to 1931 when thousands of banks and savings banks in the country in the world collapsed and disappeared.
Samoborska bank with the status of independent bank was constituted in 1978, when it aligned its operations with the provisions of the Act then in force on the Basis of banking and credit system. At the founding meeting on 27th December 1989 Samoborska Bank was established as a joint stock company. Founders for Samoborske bank were business entities from the area of Samobor, but also outside it. At the Meeting of the Bank held on the 1st December 2003 decision was made on merging with Zagorska banka.
